Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez Welcomes Democratic Gains in US Midterm Elections
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has welcomed the results of the US midterm elections, saying American voters had rejected policies that promote poverty, hatred, sexism, and climate change denial.
In a statement posted on X on Wednesday, November 4, Sánchez said voters had also rejected what he described as the privileges of political and economic elites.
He drew parallels between the US election results and recent political developments in Brazil, adding that Spain could soon see a similar shift.
“It happened in Brazil. It has just happened in the US. And it will happen soon in Spain,” Sánchez wrote.
His remarks come amid ongoing political disagreements with US President Donald Trump over issues including Venezuela, the war with Iran and NATO defence spending.
