Obama Says Americans Want Unity and an End to Political Division After Democratic Victory

Former US President Barack Obama has said the results of the midterm elections send a clear message that Americans want political leadership focused on unity rather than division, following major Democratic gains in Congress.

In a statement posted on his official X account on Wednesday, Obama said voters wanted leaders who could bring people together and offer practical solutions to the challenges facing the country.

“Tonight, the American people sent a clear message: they want a politics that brings people together rather than divides them,” Obama said.

He credited Democratic candidates nationwide for their campaigns, including those who contested seats in areas previously considered difficult for the party to win.

Obama also thanked election officials and volunteers from both political parties for helping conduct the elections.

He urged Democrats to use their newly gained political influence to deliver changes, prevent further damage, and prepare for the future, noting that the Trump administration still has two years remaining in office.

The Democratic gains are expected to give the party greater influence over Congress and increase scrutiny of President Donald Trump’s administration.
