OCHA: Afghanistan’s Education Sector Needs $160 Million in 2026

Bareen Media – The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) says Afghanistan’s education sector needs $160 million in funding for 2026, but only $22 million has been secured so far.

In a statement published on Thursday, October 8, OCHA said Afghanistan’s education system continues to face shortages of teachers, classrooms and learning materials.

The agency said the crisis is particularly severe for girls, who remain barred from attending secondary school under Taliban restrictions.

OCHA called for urgent funding for education and the lifting of the ban on girls’ secondary education, warning that these needs can no longer be delayed.
