Guterres: More Than 3 Billion People Lack Adequate Housing

UN Secretary-General António Guterres says more than three billion people worldwide lack access to adequate housing.

In a post on X on Monday, October 5, Guterres said adequate housing is a foundation for dignity, security and opportunity.

He stressed that adequate housing is a human right, yet billions of people still lack it. Marking World Habitat Day, Guterres called for greater attention to housing as a “public good.”

He said the world should be built so that everyone has a place to live and a home of their own.
