UN Calls for De-escalation After Pakistani Airstrikes Kill 10 Civilians in Afghanistan
Bareen Media – The United Nations has called for de-escalation and dialogue between Pakistan and the Taliban following Pakistani airstrikes in Kunar and Helmand provinces that killed at least 10 civilians, most of them children, and injured nine others.
UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said at a press briefing that UNAMA had confirmed the civilian casualties and warned that continued cross-border violence was putting civilian lives at risk.
Dujarric said that, so far in 2026, UNAMA has documented more than 1,100 civilian deaths and injuries in Afghanistan linked to cross-border armed violence. He called for dialogue, respect for international law and stronger protection of civilians.
The latest casualties were reported after airstrikes in Kunar and Helmand. Pakistan has said its military operations target armed groups, while Taliban authorities have reported different casualty figures.
