Seven Australian Cities Rank Among the World’s Top 100
Bareen Media – Australian cities have recorded strong positions in the 2026 Global Cities Index by Oxford Economics, with seven cities placed among the world’s top 100.
Sydney ranked 13th globally, followed by Melbourne at 16th and Brisbane at 36th. Perth ranked 44th, Canberra 45th, Adelaide 70th and the Gold Coast 78th.
The index assesses 1,000 cities across five areas: economic strength, human capital, quality of life, environment and governance. Oxford Economics said all Australian cities included in the index ranked within the global top 100, with five reaching the top 50.
The Australian rankings were highlighted by Nine News, which reported on the performance of the country’s major cities in the latest Oxford Economics assessment.
Oxford Economics said Sydney and Melbourne remain among the strongest performing cities despite falling outside the global top 10 this year, while Australian cities continue to benefit from broad performance across several categories.
