Albanese Government Faces Calls Over Missing Human Rights Activist in Cambodia
Bareen Media – Tran Hiep, a 50-year-old Australian-Vietnamese human rights activist, has gone missing after travelling to Cambodia, according to international media reports.
Hiep reportedly travelled to Phnom Penh to meet human rights activists and Vietnamese dissidents and has not contacted his wife since September 18.
Two other activists have also reportedly been detained in connection with the case. Their organisation says they were abducted in Cambodia, while Vietnamese authorities have rejected the claim.
International media report that Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has said the government is providing consular assistance to Hiep’s family. The case has also been referred to a United Nations working group on enforced disappearances.
