Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri Becomes Morocco’s First Woman Prime Minister

Bareen Media – Morocco has appointed Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri as its first woman prime minister after her party won the largest number of seats in last week’s parliamentary election. King Mohammed VI appointed her on September 29 and asked her to form a new government.

El Mansouri’s Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) won 97 of the 395 seats in parliament, ahead of the National Rally of Independents with 66 seats and Istiqlal with 65.

A former mayor of Marrakech and urban planning minister, El Mansouri must now negotiate with other parties to form a coalition government. Her government will face key challenges including employment, living costs and preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
