Taliban Burn 650 Musical Instruments in Afghanistan’s Khost Province

Bareen Media – The Taliban have burned 650 musical instruments in eastern Afghanistan’s Khost province after confiscating them during operations across the provincial capital and surrounding districts, according to local sources.

Sources said the instruments had been seized during various operations, including from wedding ceremonies, before being set on fire on Wednesday, November 4.

According to the sources, a large quantity of fireworks and firecrackers was also destroyed alongside the musical instruments.

Since returning to power in August 2021, the Taliban have imposed sweeping restrictions on music and cultural activities across Afghanistan. These restrictions have affected musicians, artists and people involved in cultural events.

The confiscation and destruction of musical instruments have become part of the restrictions imposed on artistic and cultural expression in the country.

The latest incident in Khost highlights the continuing pressure on Afghanistan’s cultural community, as musicians and artists face growing restrictions on practising their professions and preserving the country’s musical heritage.
