Women in Afghanistan continue to face serious barriers to accessing healthcare, vocational training, and income-generating opportunities, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has warned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement, the ICRC said it is implementing support programmes aimed at strengthening women’s capacities and improving their livelihoods amid growing economic hardship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The organisation’s delegation in Afghanistan noted that structural challenges have significantly weakened the ability of women who are heads of households to meet their families’ basic needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ICRC said its programmes focus on vocational training and capacity-building to help women establish sustainable sources of income and strengthen their families’ economic resilience against poverty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
ICRC has previously warned that economic difficulties and increasing restrictions have severely affected healthcare delivery in Afghanistan. It has also stressed that the presence and training of female healthcare workers are essential to saving patients’ lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Restrictions on women’s movement and employment, alongside requirements concerning male guardianship for accessing certain services, have further complicated women’s ability to receive medical care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The restrictions have also contributed to shortages of female doctors and midwives, leaving many women and families with limited access to essential healthcare services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
