The International Criminal Court has unsealed four arrest warrants against senior Taliban figures over alleged crimes against humanity in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The warrants name Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzada, Chief Justice Abdul Hakim Haqqani, Education Minister Habibullah Agha and Higher Education Minister Neda Mohammad Nadim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ICC said its judges found reasonable grounds to believe the four were responsible for persecution on gender grounds against women, girls and others who did not conform to the Taliban\u2019s gender policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The court also found grounds concerning the alleged political persecution of people perceived as \u201callies of girls and women.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the ICC, the alleged crimes have been committed in Afghanistan since the Taliban seized power on 15 August 2021 and continued at least until 20 January 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The court said Taliban policies severely deprived women and girls of fundamental rights, including education, freedom of movement, freedom of expression, privacy and family life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ICC also linked the alleged persecution to conduct including murder, imprisonment, torture, rape and enforced disappearance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The warrants for Akhundzada and Haqqani were issued in July 2025, while those for Agha and Nadim were issued in September 2025 and remained sealed until now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
