{"id":1531,"date":"2026-09-27T13:07:12","date_gmt":"2026-09-27T13:07:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bareenmedia.com\/en\/?p=1531"},"modified":"2026-09-27T13:07:14","modified_gmt":"2026-09-27T13:07:14","slug":"new-un-envoy-for-afghanistan-meets-indian-foreign-ministry-official-in-new-york","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bareenmedia.com\/en\/blog\/2026\/09\/27\/new-un-envoy-for-afghanistan-meets-indian-foreign-ministry-official-in-new-york\/","title":{"rendered":"New UN Envoy for Afghanistan Meets Indian Foreign Ministry Official in New York"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Bareen Media <\/strong>&#8211; Raba Fatima, the newly appointed UN Secretary-General\u2019s Special Representative for Afghanistan and head of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), met with Vikram Misri, India\u2019s Foreign Secretary, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">India\u2019s Ministry of External Affairs said Misri stressed the need for the international community to maintain its focus on the humanitarian needs of the Afghan people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also welcomed UNAMA\u2019s work in Afghanistan and reaffirmed India\u2019s continued cooperation with the UN mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fatima said on X that she was pleased to meet Misri and thanked India for its continued support for the UN Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She also noted India\u2019s role as co-chair of the Group of Friends of Landlocked Developing Countries and expressed hope that New Delhi would continue its support and cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fatima, a senior Bangladeshi diplomat, has not yet formally started her assignment in Kabul but is expected to begin her work as the UN Secretary-General\u2019s Special Representative and head of UNAMA soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UN Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres appointed Fatima in July 2026 to succeed Roza Otunbayeva.
