US Afghanistan War Commission Meets Pakistan Army Chief

Bareen Media – A delegation from the US Afghanistan War Commission met Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, at military headquarters in Rawalpindi on Monday as part of the commission’s review of the 20-year US war in Afghanistan.

The delegation, led by commission co chairs Shamila N. Chaudhary and Dr Colin P. Jackson, discussed Pakistan’s role during the conflict, developments in Afghanistan and the wider regional security situation.

Pakistan’s military said the meeting allowed the commission to hear Islamabad’s perspective on the strategic and security challenges that shaped the war.

The US Afghanistan War Commission was established by Congress in 2021 to review major US decisions and policies related to the Afghanistan war between 2001 and 2021.

The commission’s review comes five years after the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan and includes examining the role of neighbouring countries and the wider regional consequences of the conflict.
