Afghan National Executed in Iran on Espionage Charges

Bareen Media – Iranian Kurdish human rights organization Hengaw says Iranian authorities have executed Torat Mohammadi, a 42-year-old Afghan national and former member of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, after he was convicted of espionage.

Hengaw said Mohammadi was executed early Wednesday, September 23, at Karaj Prison in Iran.

According to the rights group, Mohammadi was originally from Mazar-e-Sharif and was the father of four children. He had been living in Qom before his arrest.

Hengaw said Mohammadi had previously worked with an institution affiliated with the IRGC and was arrested about two years ago. He reportedly spent seven months in an IRGC intelligence detention facility during interrogation.

The organization said the execution was carried out without prior notice to his family or lawyer and that he was denied a final meeting with his wife and children.

Hengaw said Mohammadi was the 16th person executed in Iran in 2026 on espionage-related charges. Iranian authorities have not publicly commented on the report.
