Afghan Woman Expands Saffron Exports While Training Girls in Online Business
Bareen Media – Afghan entrepreneur Armaghan Walizada says her saffron business has expanded to international markets after four years of work, while she also trains girls in Kabul in online business skills.
She said her company currently earns around 300,000 to 400,000 Afghanis annually, with saffron products sold in markets including Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan and Iran.
Walizada said building the business and gaining the trust of foreign customers took about two years. She said a lack of contacts and limited recognition outside Afghanistan were among the biggest challenges in the early stages.
She said establishing relationships with buyers and sellers in other countries gradually helped her build a customer base and expand her exports.
Alongside her business, Walizada is also working to teach girls in Kabul how to develop online businesses and create economic opportunities.
