Saudi Arabia Calls for Investigation into Attack on Humanitarian Aid in Sudan
Saudi Arabia says humanitarian aid near the city of El Obeid in Sudan’s North Kordofan state has come under attack.
According to the Sudan Tribune, Saudi Arabia’s permanent representative to the United Nations has accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of attacking humanitarian aid in a letter to the UN Security Council.
Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al-Wasil, Saudi Arabia’s representative to the UN, sent the letter to the UN secretary general and members of the Security Council on September 16.
The letter described the attack as a “serious act” against humanitarian assistance provided by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre.
According to the report, the attack took place in mid August near the city of El Obeid, which has also been targeted by drone attacks in recent months.
Sudan has been facing a prolonged war and humanitarian crisis, and attacks on aid shipments could make it more difficult to deliver assistance to people in need.
The Rapid Support Forces have not so far issued a response to the accusation by Saudi Arabia cited in this report.
