Afghan National Sentenced to Six Months in U.S. Prison for Special Immigrant Visa Fraud

Bareen Media – An Afghan national has been sentenced to six months in federal prison after admitting to fraud in applications for a U.S. Special Immigrant Visa (SIV).

The U.S. Department of Justice said Dilbar Gul Dilbar, also known as Dilbar Gul Taj Ali Khan, pleaded guilty to visa fraud in federal court in New York on October 1.

According to the department, Dilbar paid individuals to prepare and submit two SIV applications on his behalf. In the first application, he knew a false approval letter from the U.S. Embassy in Kabul had been submitted.

In the second application, filed in 2021, he again confirmed the information as accurate despite knowing there was a high probability that at least one representation was false.

As a result, Dilbar received an SIV in April 2024, entered the United States, and was granted lawful permanent resident status. The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
