Fatana Najib Recalls Former Afghan President Dr. Najibullah as a Caring Family Man

Bareen Media – Fatana Najib, wife of former Afghan President Dr. Najibullah Ahmadzai, has spoken in a recent interview about his personality, family life and final years.

She described her husband as kind, warm and caring, saying he was also a responsible and affectionate father to their children.

Recalling their final meeting before she left Afghanistan for India, Fatana said she struggled to control her emotions and cried as they said goodbye.

She said the couple remained in contact for about 10 days after Dr. Najibullah took refuge at the UN compound in Kabul, but they then lost contact for nearly eight months.

Fatana described her husband’s death as the most difficult period of her life. Dr. Najibullah remained at the UN compound after the collapse of his government in 1992 and was killed in September 1996 as the Taliban entered Kabul.
