100-Million-Year-Old Dinosaur Skull Draws Egypt’s President’s Attention

A reconstructed skull of the Egyptian Spinosaurus, a dinosaur believed to have lived around 100 million years ago, drew the attention of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi during the opening of a mining exhibition in Egypt.

According to RT, el-Sisi viewed the detailed skull replica displayed inside a glass case while touring the exhibition.

German paleontologist Ernst Stromer discovered the first remains of the dinosaur in 1912 in the Bahariya Oasis in Egypt’s Western Desert.

Egypt’s State Information Service says Spinosaurus was among the largest known predators in Earth’s history. Its jaw and teeth suggest that fish and other aquatic animals made up a significant part of its diet.

The original fossils were later transferred to a museum in Munich, Germany, but were destroyed in a World War II bombing.

More recent research involving Egyptian and international scientists has made it possible to reconstruct the dinosaur’s skull and skeleton using newly discovered evidence.

The reconstructed specimen has renewed interest in Egypt’s fossil discoveries and their importance to the study of prehistoric life.
