Taliban Detain At Least Eight Women in Herat Over Dress Code
Bareen Media – Local sources in Herat province report that Taliban authorities detained at least eight women on Saturday over alleged violations of the group’s dress requirements.
The arrests took place as Taliban morality-police personnel continued patrols across Herat, monitoring the clothing of women and girls. Sources said the detentions are part of the Taliban’s ongoing enforcement of restrictions on women’s appearance in public.
The whereabouts and condition of the detained women remain unclear. Earlier reports from Herat said female Taliban morality-police officers had forcibly taken women into vehicles during similar operations. Reports of such arrests and alleged mistreatment have also emerged from other provinces, including Kabul.
Sources have previously said that some detained women had complied with the Taliban’s required dress code. There have also been reports of authorities searching the mobile phones of detained women.
The latest arrests highlight the continued enforcement of Taliban restrictions on Afghan women and girls in public life.
