UK Steps Up Pressure on Israeli Settlements Over Palestinian Rights

Bareen Media – British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband has announced new measures against activities linked to Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories, citing concerns over the rights and conditions of Palestinians.

Speaking at the Labour Party conference in Liverpool, Miliband said Britain would ban imports from Israeli settlements and take steps to restrict British services, construction activity and financial support linked to settlement expansion.

He described the situation facing Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank as deeply concerning and warned about what he called “ethnic cleansing” in parts of the West Bank. He also raised concerns over evidence of alleged war crimes in Gaza.

Miliband said the suffering of Palestinians had become a major concern for the international community and that Britain would continue efforts to protect Palestinian rights and support a two-state solution.

His remarks come as the UK has increased political and economic pressure over Israeli settlement expansion and the humanitarian situation in the Palestinian territories.
