Pakistan Hosts Afghanistan Conference as Tensions With Taliban Intensify

Bareen Media – A conference on Afghanistan and the path toward peace has opened in Islamabad, bringing together several Afghan opposition figures and representatives from countries in the region.

Former Bamyan governor Mohammad Tahir Zuhair and former parliament member Amanullah Payman attended the meeting, along with representatives from Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China and Russia. Participants raised concerns about security in Afghanistan and called for an inclusive government.

Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said Afghanistan remains a concern because of the presence of militant groups, describing terrorism as a major obstacle to improving relations between Islamabad and the Taliban.

The meeting comes as tensions between Pakistan and the Taliban remain high following recent deadly border clashes and disagreements over security and militant activity. Regional efforts to ease the tensions are continuing.
