Andisha: Afghan Women Artists Are Using Art to Share Their Voices With the World
Bareen Media – Afghan women artists in Afghanistan are using art to express the experiences, concerns, and hopes of women and girls despite growing restrictions.
Andisha said the situation has become more difficult for women, girls and artists since the Taliban returned to power, with serious restrictions on education, employment and freedom of expression. He said art has become an important way for Afghan women to communicate their experiences to audiences outside the country.
He pointed to the “Afghanistan Blossoming” exhibition, held on the sidelines of the 63rd session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. The exhibition features works by Afghan women artists living inside and outside Afghanistan.
Andisha said the artworks represent more than artistic expression, describing them as reflections of the experiences, hopes, and resilience of Afghan women artists.
